Day Trip Details

We'll meet on Calle San Bernardo and leave Madrid for Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After about an hour's journey, we will begin a guided tour of Alcalá de Henares lasting an hour and a half, focusing on its historic center and its connections to the Spanish Golden Age.

During the tour, we will visit the famous university, founded in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros. The route will continue to the Plaza de Cervantes, where the Corral de Comedias, one of the oldest public theaters in Europe, is located.

Cervantes is a prominent figure in Alcalá de Henares. We will walk along Calle Mayor to his birthplace and visit the Cervantes Birthplace Museum to learn about life in 17th century Spain.

We will also visit the exterior of the church where he was baptized in 1547 and admire the Alcalá Cathedral, known for its Elizabethan Gothic style.

After the guided tour, you will have two hours of free time to explore the city at your own pace. We will then regroup at the bus and conclude the tour back at the starting point.
