Day Trip Details
We'll meet on Calle San Bernardo. From here, we'll depart Madrid towards Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
After approximately an hour's journey, we'll arrive and commence a guided tour of Alcalá de Henares, lasting one and a half hours, focusing on its links to the Spanish Golden Age.
The tour includes a visit inside the famous university, established in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros. We will proceed to the Plaza de Cervantes, home to the Corral de Comedias, one of the oldest public theaters in Europe, dating back to the 17th century.
We'll further explore the legacy of Miguel de Cervantes by visiting his birthplace along Calle Mayor. In the Cervantes Birthplace Museum, we will learn about life in 17th century Spain, a significant period for art and societal challenges.
We'll also view the church where Cervantes was baptized in 1547 and admire the Alcalá Cathedral, notable for its Elizabethan Gothic style, while uncovering various interesting details.
Following the guided tour, participants will have two hours of free time for independent exploration. We will reconvene at the bus to conclude the tour and return to the starting point.
