Day Trip Details
We'll meet on Calle San Bernardo, from where we will set off for Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO World Heritage site. After about an hour's journey, we'll arrive and begin a guided tour of Alcalá de Henares for an hour and a half, focusing on its links to the Spanish Golden Age.
The tour includes a guided visit inside the famous university, founded in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros. We will then visit the Plaza de Cervantes to see the Corral de Comedias, one of the oldest public theaters in Europe, dating back to the 17th century.
The famous writer Miguel de Cervantes is a focal point of our visit. We will walk along Calle Mayor to his birthplace and explore the Cervantes Birthplace Museum, where we will learn about life in 17th century Spain. Additionally, we will visit the outside of the church where he was baptized in 1547 and admire the Alcalá Cathedral, known for its Elizabethan Gothic style.
After the guided tour, you'll have two hours of free time to explore the city at your own pace. We will then regroup at the bus and conclude the tour back at the starting point.
