Day Trip Details
We'll meet on Calle San Bernardo, central to Madrid. From here, we will leave Madrid and set off for Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
After approximately one hour of travel, we will arrive and begin a guided tour of Alcalá de Henares, lasting an hour and a half, focusing on its historical significance related to the Spanish Golden Age.
The tour includes a guided tour inside its famous university, founded in 1499 by Cardinal Cisneros. We will proceed to the Plaza de Cervantes, where the Corral de Comedias, one of the oldest public theaters in Europe dating back to the 17th century, is located.
We will also walk along Calle Mayor to visit Miguel de Cervantes' birthplace. The Cervantes Birthplace Museum offers insights into life in 17th century Spain, a period of artistic flourishing amid social turmoil.
Next, we will view the church where Cervantes was baptized in 1547, followed by a visit to the Alcalá Cathedral, notable for its Elizabethan Gothic style.
After the guided tour, you will have two hours of free time to explore the city at your own pace. We will then regroup at the bus to conclude the tour back at the starting point.
