Toledo, El Escorial & Valley of the Fallen Day Trip
We'll meet at 8:45 am at 3 Ferraz Street in Madrid. From this central point in the Spanish capital, we'll leave by bus to the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, arriving after one hour.
We'll visit the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a monument from the 16th century commissioned by King Felipe II. During the tour of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, we'll see the Palace of the Habsburgs and the Bourbons, the Pantheon of the Kings and Princes of Spain, the Chapterhouses, and the Basilica.
Next, we'll go to the Valley of the Fallen, where we will access the crypt and the Basilica of the Valley, noting the 150-meter cross and the views of the mountainous landscape and Cuelgamuros.
After our visit, we'll return to Madrid, arriving at 2 pm for one hour of free time for lunch. Following lunch, we'll head to Toledo, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We'll tour the old town, viewing the facade of the Primate Cathedral and the Alcazar. Our day trip will conclude with a visit to a traditional workshop to learn about damascene.
Finally, we'll return to Madrid, arriving at 8 pm in the Plaza de España.
