A Famous Observatory with Links to Mars
The Astronomical Observatory of Brera is a significant historical building in Milan's scientific community, dating back to the 18th century. It currently houses the Astronomical Museum of Brera, featuring a complete exhibition related to astronomy, significant for various findings made within its walls, including discussions about the Mars canals by the astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli in 1877.
During the tour, we will explore the Gallery of Instruments with our guide, who will explain various interesting facts about the objects. This includes learning about the uses of a magnetometer, how a spectograph works, and the importance of pendulum clocks in astronomy. The tour lasts for about an hour.
Gallery of Instruments + Schiaparelli Dome
If you opt for the visit to the Schiaparelli Dome, the tour will last a total of 75 minutes. 30 minutes will be spent in the Gallery of Instruments, followed by a visit to the dome housing the Merz telescope, used by astronomers in Brera since the 20th century.
