Itaimbezinho Canyon Day Trip

If you're in Mampituba, you cannot miss this day trip to the Itaimbezinho Canyon.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Sítio Cultural Museu da Estância. From this point in Mampituba, we'll leave for the Itaimbezinho Canyon, a natural treasure of southern Brazil.

After an hour's drive, we'll arrive at the foot of the Serra do Faxinal, where the old Tropeiros Route begins. We'll explore the history of the tropeiros of Brazil while walking the 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) of this trail along the Itaimbezinho Canyon to the Elbow viewpoint.

From this vantage point, you will see the impressive scale of the canyon: walls reaching heights of 700 meters (2,296 feet), a 5.8-kilometer (3.6 miles) gorge, and a maximum gap of 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) between rock formations. After taking in these views, we'll continue with a 1.5-kilometer (0.9 miles) walk to the Vértice viewpoint, where you can see the Andorinhas and Véu da Noiva waterfalls.

We will also visit the Casa da Vó Maria, built in 1945, which currently houses a craft store, snacks, and drinks. From there, we'll return to the starting point of the trekking route, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to the meeting point in Mampituba, arriving 6 hours after pickup.
