  • 9 Stunden

Riparian forest and desert come together to form the San Fernando National Reserve, a natural area visited during this excursion from San Juan de Marcona.

San Fernando Reserve Tour

Pickup is at Andrés Avelino Cáceres Street in San Juan de Marcona at 9:30 am, followed by departure towards the San Fernando National Reserve, with scenic views of San Nicolas Bay.

Upon arrival, an introductory talk will cover the area's wildlife and morphology, highlighting the coexistence of the desert, the sea, and the hills. A visit to a viewpoint will provide views of Humboldt penguin and sea lion colonies.

Lunch includes a Creole dish, a fruit, and a soft drink. Afterwards, activities include swimming at the beach and picking sea urchins for homemade ceviche. The “Elephant's Trunk” rock formation will also be visited.

The tour proceeds to a viewpoint of Andean condors, which nest in rocky areas and feed on sea lion placentas. Other birds such as Guanay cormorants, common gallinules, Inca terns, and pelicans may also be observed.

The return to San Juan de Marcona is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
