Merzouga to Fez Trip: 3 Days

Head into the immensity of the desert and enjoy a unique adventure visiting beautiful locations like Ouarzazate and the Erg Chebbi dunes with this 3-day trip through Merzouga to Fez.

Trip Description

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley

We will leave Marrakech at the scheduled time and head to Ouarzazate. The journey takes approximately 4 hours, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka pass at over 2,000 metres. We will stop at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, known from films like Gladiator, before proceeding to Ouarzazate to see the Kasbah of Taourirt. Finally, we will travel along the Thousand Kasbahs Road towards Skoura and arrive at the Roses Valley before sunset, spending the night in the Dades Valley (or possibly in Skoura).

Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Merzouga

After breakfast, we will explore the Dades Gorges and the Todra Gorges, taking in the views. We will continue to Merzouga, crossing the Jorf Palm Grove, and take a lunch break before reaching Erfoud, known for fossil fragments. After visiting Erfoud, we will travel to Merzouga where we will switch to camels for a desert trek to the camp. A quad bike tour is also available at additional cost. We will dine in Erg Chebbi under the stars.

Day 3: Rissani - Ziz Valley - Middle Atlas - Fez

On the last day, we will witness the sunrise in the desert before showering and having breakfast at the camp. Then we will depart for Fez, passing through Tafilalet and Rissani. The tour continues through Azrou and Ifrane, stopping at the monkey forest. We expect to arrive in Fez around 6 pm, with the option of a taxi service with an English, Spanish, or French-speaking driver, subject to availability.

Accommodation

The first night accommodation will be in Dades at places like Dar Essyaha or Hotel Babylon, for both standard and superior options. The second night will be spent in a haima camp in Merzouga, with standard accommodations having shared bathrooms and superior accommodations offering private bathrooms. Differences in menu and interior decoration exist between the categories. Note that air-conditioning in luxury camps incurs a charge of 30EUR per person, and not all campsites have WiFi. Rooms are available as double, triple, or family rooms.
