Guided Tour of Marsala Salt Pans
- 1 Stunde
Marsala Salt Pans Tour
At the designated time, we'll meet at the entrance of the salt mines in Marsala to begin our tour. These salt pans, located within the Stagnon Nature Reserve, are significant for the region and serve as a habitat for various species of migratory birds.
We will start with a visit to the windmill in Infersa, where you'll learn about sea salt production through videos and insights about the functioning of this structure, the only one still operating in the province of Trapani and dating back to the 16th century.
Following the windmill visit, we will proceed to the salt pans of the mill, walking along the shore between the pools. Here, we will discuss the manual salt collection process, highlighting that this product has a Protected Geographical Indication due to its centuries-old extraction method.
Throughout the tour, the changing colors of the pools will enhance the experience. At sunset, expect to see pink and orange hues against the blue Mediterranean Sea. During the day, sunlight will illuminate the salt mounds, creating a surreal landscape, ideal for photography.
After this 1-hour tour, we will conclude the activity and bid farewell.
