Located opposite the port of Marseille, Château d'If was a notorious jail in France. It is a significant site to visit during your trip to the South of France.
Why Visit the Château d'If?
The setting of the renowned novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, takes place in Château d'If. The fortress, built between 1524 and 1531 by King Francis I for coastal defense, housed significant state prisoners. Your ticket allows you to explore the old cells and enjoy coastal views from its towers. An informational leaflet in English is provided for your visit.
Château d'If Opening Times
Château d'If opens at the following times:
April 1 - September 30: Every day from 10:30 am to 6 pm.October 1 - March 31: Every day from 10:30 am to 5 pm.January 21, 2025: Opens at 1 pm.January 22, 2025: Opens at 12:30 pm.
Final admission depends on the boat schedule from Marseille's port.
Free Admission
Admission to Château d'If is free for:
Young individuals aged 18-25 from the EU.Children under 18 years old.
To obtain free admission, visit the ticket office and present a valid ID. Free admissions are also available on the first Sunday of the month from January to March, November to December, and the third weekend of September.
Transport Not Included
This ticket does not include transport to the Island of If. Ferries from the Old Port in Marseille (Vieux Port) are available for access, but the fare is not included in the Château d'If ticket price.
