2,600 years of history and two tasting sessions await on our Le Panier Guided Tour, exploring the modernization of this Phocian city, the oldest district in France.
Le Panier Guided Tour
The tour starts at 10 am by the Vieux Port metro exit (Quai des Belges). The guide will discuss the rehabilitation of monuments in 2013, such as the Docks, Silo, Villa Méditerranée, and the MUCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations).
The route includes a seafront walk before entering the Le Panier district, the oldest in Marseille and France. Highlights include the 19th-century La Major Cathedral and the district's narrow streets filled with street art, resembling an open-air museum.
You will see the symbolic Vieille Charité and Place des Moulins, where the guide will share insights about the founding of Marseille 2,600 years ago and key historical events.
The next stop is the Place de Lenche, where you will taste delicious chocolate navettes (French biscuits).
The tour concludes at 12 pm in front of the Saint-Laurent church, overlooking a view of the Vieux-Port and the MUCEM. The guide will answer questions and provide tips for your stay in Marseille.
