Matera Tuk-Tuk Tour

After meeting your guide in Via Alessandro Volta, you will board your tuk-tuk to begin your tour. This vehicle is known as an "Ape calessino" in Italian.

During your tuk-tuk tour, you will make several stops at important places of interest, allowing for close exploration and photo opportunities. Your first stop will be the Church of Purgatory, built in 1747, noted for its architectural references to death, particularly its façade adorned with skulls and skeletons.

Next, you will visit Matera Cathedral, located at the city's highest point. The cathedral features a 52-metre-tall (170 feet) belfry, which is prominent in the skyline and has bells heard throughout the city.

Continue with a visit to the Church of San Giovanni, followed by a journey through the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Cavoso neighborhoods. These areas contain the 'sassi di Matera', cave dwellings recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The historic structures and golden-stone streets resemble Jerusalem and have served as backdrops for notable films, including Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ.

The tour will conclude as you make your way to Piazza San Francesco after an immersive 50-minute tuk-tuk tour.
