Sasso Barisano Tour
We'll meet at the indicated time at Via Domenico Ridola 61, where we'll start this tour by discussing the history and culture of the city of Matera.
To reach Sasso Barisano, we'll take Via Ridola, observing baroque-style buildings and temples. We will pass the Lanfranchi seminary, the church of Santa Chiara, and the convent of the Poor Clares, home to the Domenico Ridola Archaeological Museum.
After visiting the churches of Purgatorio and San Francesco, we'll arrive at Piazza del Sedile, known for its lively atmosphere reflecting the characteristic Italian dolce vita. We'll then take Via delle Beccheria, an ancient shopping street, to reach Piazza Vittorio Veneto, where we will enjoy a panoramic view of Sasso Barisano by navigating narrow alleyways and underground passages.
Once in Sasso Barisano, we'll visit a typical cave house carved into the rock and traditionally furnished. Here, we'll learn about the history of the inhabitants of Matera and explore an ancient hypogeum.
On our return to the starting point, we'll make a final stop for a tasting of local products. The tour lasts 2.5 hours, concluding with our goodbyes.
