We'll meet at the indicated time at Via Domenico Ridola 61, where we'll start this tour discussing the history and culture of the city of Matera.
To reach Sasso Barisano, we'll take Via Ridola, passing by baroque-style buildings, the Lanfranchi seminary, the church of Santa Chiara, and the convent of the Poor Clares, home to the Domenico Ridola Archaeological Museum.
After visiting the churches of Purgatorio and San Francesco, we'll arrive at Piazza del Sedile, known for its lively atmosphere. We'll proceed along Via delle Beccheria, an ancient shopping street, leading us to Piazza Vittorio Veneto, providing a panoramic view of Sasso Barisano through narrow alleyways and underground passages.
In Sasso Barisano, we'll enter one typical cave house, learning how residents lived before abandoning these homes. We'll also explore an ancient hypogeum nearby.
