Want to hike in the largest national park in Mauritius? The Black River Gorges await you with their waterfalls, mountains, and tropical forests. Let's go!
Black River Gorges Hiking Tour
Our hike will start at the meeting point located at the Le Pétrin information center. From this point, we'll have direct access to the Black River Gorges National Park.
For about four hours, we'll hike along the trails in this natural reserve covering over 16,000 acres. We'll experience landscapes with over 300 different species of trees and plants, and diverse wildlife including birds, monkeys, and reptiles.
Walking through the trails of the Macchabée forest, we'll find viewpoints that offer panoramic views of the valleys and mountains in the park. We'll also take pictures of the waterfalls cascading down the gorges.
On the way back, we'll cross the Mare Longue reservoir at the northern end of the park, with potential sightings of the unique pink pigeon.
We will conclude the tour approximately 5 hours later back at the Le Pétrin information center after walking 7.5 miles through green trails and tropical landscapes.
