- 5 Stunden
Want to hike in the largest national park in Mauritius? The Black River Gorges await you with their waterfalls, mountains, and tropical forests. Let's go!
Black River Gorges Hiking Tour
Our hike will start at the meeting point located at the Le Pétrin information center. From this point, we'll have direct access to the Black River Gorges National Park.
For about four hours, we'll hike along the trails that run through this natural reserve covering over 16,000 acres. We'll enjoy landscapes full of vegetation, with more than 300 different species of trees and plants, and diverse wildlife that includes birds, monkeys, reptiles, and other species.
Walking through the trails of the Macchabée forest, we'll find viewpoints that offer panoramic views of the valleys and mountains in the park. We'll also be able to take several pictures of the waterfalls that cascade down the gorges of this natural reserve.
On the way back to the starting point, we'll cross the Mare Longue reservoir, located at the northern end of the park. From this dam, it's sometimes possible to spot a pink pigeon, a species unique to Mauritius.
Lastly, we'll end the tour around 5 hours later back at the Le Pétrin information center after walking 7.5 miles of green trails and tropical landscapes.
