Day Trip to Guatape + La Manuela Estate

Are you eager to explore one of the most picturesque villages in Colombia? This day excursion from Medellín will take you to Guatapé aboard a traditional chiva bus. Additionally, we will embark on a boat journey to La Manuela, the illustrious estate linked to the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Itinerary

Our adventure begins at the arranged meeting point on Calle 9, specifically at the LA 9 MALL GASTROTURISTICO. From here in Medellín, we will travel east on a distinctive chiva, a classic Colombian bus.

As we journey, you will have the opportunity to savor a sampling of three authentic Colombian delicacies. Our first stop will be at the Alto del Chocho Farm, where you’ll encounter various animals, including alpacas, llamas, pigs, and horses.

Next, we will arrive in Guatapé, a gem of Antioquia. Our initial destination will be the Piedra del Peñol, an immense rock that features 740 steps leading to breathtaking views overlooking the Peñol-Guatapé Reservoir.

Continuing on, we'll explore the historical center of Guatapé, renowned for its vibrant streets adorned with colorful decorations. One particularly popular spot is a street shaded by umbrellas, well-known as an Instagram hotspot in Colombia, providing excellent photo opportunities for your social media.

After our time in the village, we’ll head to a restaurant situated on the pier to indulge in a traditional Paisa lunch. Following our meal, we will embark on a boat ride across the Guatapé Reservoir, taking us to La Manuela estate, formerly owned by the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Upon arrival at the estate, you’ll partake in a guided tour of the property’s remnants. After gaining insights into the history of Pablo Escobar, you will have about an hour of free time to engage in one of the activities available at the estate, should you choose to do so. Options include paintball, or renting a jet ski or an ATV.

Finally, we’ll reboard the boat for our return to Guatapé, where our chiva will be ready to transport us back to Medellín, concluding a memorable day after approximately 10 to 11 hours of exploration.
