Guatapé Day Trip + Pablo Escobar Estate Visit

If you're looking to explore one of the most stunning villages in Colombia, this day trip from Medellín is perfect for you. Together, we'll embark on a journey to Guatapé via a traditional chiva bus. Additionally, we will traverse the waters to visit La Manuela, a property notorious for belonging to the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Day Trip Overview

Our adventure begins at the scheduled meeting point on Calle 9, specifically outside the LA 9 MALL GASTROTURISTICO. From here, we will head east in a quintessential Colombian chiva bus.

During our ride, we will indulge in a sampling of three traditional Colombian products. Our first stop will be the Alto del Chocho Farm, where you will have the chance to see various animals, including alpacas, llamas, pigs, and horses.

Next, we'll arrive in Guatapé, celebrated as one of the most picturesque villages in Antioquia. Our journey will first take us to Piedra del Peñol, an impressive monolith with 740 steps leading to breathtaking views of the Peñol-Guatapé Reservoir.

After our climb, we will proceed to explore the historical center of Guatapé, where vibrant streets adorned with colorful decorations await us. A particular highlight will be a charming street covered by umbrellas, which has become a favored spot for photos on Instagram.

After touring the village, we will savor a traditional Paisa lunch at a restaurant located by the pier. Following this, we will board a boat across the Guatapé Reservoir that will take us to La Manuela estate, an estate once owned by the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Upon arrival at the estate, we will enjoy a guided tour of the site. After learning about the history surrounding Pablo Escobar, you will receive approximately one hour of free time to engage in captivating activities available at the estate. Options include paintballing, and renting a jet ski or an ATV.

Finally, we will return to Guatapé by boat, where our chiva will be waiting to take us back to Medellín. This immersive day trip will conclude after about 10 to 11 hours of exploration and experiences.

Mode of Transport

Our journey from Medellín will be aboard a chiva, a classic themed tourist vehicle of Colombia. During periods of high demand, however, an exclusive themed VIP sightseeing bus may replace the chiva, ensuring that the experience and activities remain intact, though it will differ from the traditional chiva.
