On this excursion to the Atuel Canyon and San Rafael, we will explore a key natural area in the Argentine province of Mendoza.

Atuel Canyon and Valle Grande Trip

Hotel pickup in Mendoza will occur at the indicated time. After a 3-hour drive (235 kilometers or 146 miles) through the Uco Valley, we will reach San Rafael. Following a visit to the city, we will proceed to the Valle Grande reservoir, where free time is provided for photography, leisure walks, lunch, or activities such as rafting on the Atuel River or a catamaran ride on the Valle Grande Dam Lake.

Next, we will explore Atuel Canyon to observe rock formations shaped by natural forces. We will then visit El Nihuil Dam, which creates two artificial lakes for electricity generation.

Finally, we will drive 285 kilometers (177 miles) back to Mendoza, which will take around 3.5 hours, arriving at the hotel 14 to 16 hours after pickup.

Pickup

The tour includes hotel pickup in downtown Mendoza. For accommodations over 2 kilometers from the city center, the guide will contact you to arrange a meeting point.

Itinerary Adjustments

Due to a landslide on part of the Atuel Canyon road, the itinerary will be adjusted until approximately July. Less time will be spent in Atuel Canyon, but the itinerary will include a visit to Los Reyunos Dam, fed by the Diamante River, which creates a 750-hectare (1,853 acres) lake.
