Segway Tour of Messina
We will meet at the Santissima Annunziata dei Catalani Church to start the segway tour around Messina. Our first route will take us via Castello a mare to Piazza Cairoli, a key commercial area. We will then proceed to Piazza Pugliatti to see the courthouse and the university.
Next, we will visit Piazza Duomo, home to notable monuments like the Orion fountain, the Cathedral, and its clock tower, which features moving bronze statues at the hour. We will navigate past baroque fountains and neoclassical churches to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele III, known for its atmosphere, and ascend to the Church of Montalto for a panoramic view of the Sicilian city.
On our descent, we will pass by the medieval Church of St. Francis of Assisi and the Palace of Monte di Pietà, impacted by the 1908 earthquake. We will then head to Piazza Unità d'Italia to see the Government Palace and the fountain of Neptune. Our final stops include Piazza Municipio for the statue of Ferdinand of Bourbon and the Vittorio Emanuele II theatre. We will conclude the three-hour tour by returning to the original meeting point after viewing the monument to Don John of Austria in Via Lepanto.
