Day Trip Details

At the specified time, we will pick you up by minibus at the designated meeting point in Kalambaka to begin the journey to Meteora, home to the iconic hanging monasteries. The journey lasts approximately 20 minutes, leading you to these monasteries situated atop rocky cliffs 600 metres high.

During the tour, we provide insights and facts about Meteora and its monasteries. Once there, you will learn about the historical significance, including how the area was featured as the Eagle's Nest Prison in Game of Thrones. Originally, 24 monasteries existed in Meteora, but today only six are open to visitors: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St. Nicholas Anapausas, St. Stephen, and Holy Trinity.

We will visit three of these monasteries, depending on the day's itinerary. Note that the visit inside the monasteries will not be guided, but we will share all necessary information beforehand. The tour concludes with a return transfer to Kalambaka after approximately 4 hours.

Visit to the Monasteries

During the tour, you will visit the interior of 3 monasteries, subject to availability based on the day. For example, Great Meteoron Monastery is closed every Tuesday. If your visit falls on that day, you will only see the exterior. No guided tours are provided inside, but an audio guide is available for download.
