Explore the historical centre of the charming village and its curious surprises, such as its famous donkey taxis, with this Mijas Guided Tour. Let yourself be captivated by the beauty of this corner of Malaga.
Mijas Guided Tour
Our Mijas guided tour will begin at the sculpture of the donkey-taxi. From this location, we'll head to a modern panoramic public elevator that allows us to admire the Avenida del Compás and its traditional donkey taxis. The origin of this mode of transport is noteworthy.
We'll also visit the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña, excavated in the rock by Mercedarian monks in the 16th century. The tour continues past the Plaza de la Constitución to the remnants of the ancient Arab wall. As we navigate through the picturesque streets of whitewashed buildings, we'll reach the Immaculada Concepción church, built on the remains of a mosque from the Andalusian period.
Before descending to the lower part of Mijas, we'll walk through La Muralla Park, where viewpoints provide extraordinary panoramic views of the Mediterranean coast of the Costa del Sol. On our return, we may attend public open-air flamenco shows near the shopping streets.
We will then visit the Plaza de la Libertad and Málaga street to explore two more symbolic locations in Mijas: the San Sebastian chapel and the CAC Contemporary Art Centre (recommended for visiting at the tour's end).
The tour concludes with our return to the Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña.
