Discover Guatemala's indigenous cultures and Mayan traditions on this day trip to San Juan La Laguna or Santiago with a boat ride on Lake Atitlan.
Activity Details
We will pick you up from your hotel in Guatemala City in the morning and travel towards the Guatemalan Highlands, heading to Panajachel, the largest town on the shores of Lake Atitlán. After approximately 3 hours, we'll arrive in Panajachel for a guided tour of its main tourist attractions, including Santander Street and its church. We will visit the dock for scenic views of the lake and its volcanoes before boarding a boat to cross Lake Atitlán, where we will see the Tolimán, Atitlán and San Pedro volcanoes and learn local legends.
Upon arriving in San Juan La Laguna, you'll participate in handicraft workshops focusing on chocolate, textiles, and medicinal plants. After exploring the village, we'll return to Panajachel by boat. There, you can enjoy a typical Guatemalan meal and have free time to explore the town. We will return to hotels in Guatemala City after about 12 to 12.5 hours.
Santiago Atitlán Boat Trip
You can upgrade your experience to include a boat trip to Santiago Atitlán. This route will take you east of the lake to visit Maximón, a traditional figure in Guatemala. We will walk along the main street of Santiago, visiting the brotherhood of Maximón, where local believers offer him aguardiente and cigars. After the visit, we will sail back to Panajachel for free time to enjoy a traditional lunch.
