Discover Guatemala's indigenous cultures and Mayan traditions on this day trip to San Juan La Laguna or Santiago, including a boat ride on Lake Atitlan.
Activity Details
After picking you up from your hotel in Guatemala City in the morning, we will head towards the Guatemalan Highlands, traveling towards Panajachel, the largest town on Lake Atitlán's shores.
Arriving in Panajachel after approximately a 3-hour drive, we will take a guided tour of Panajachel, observing main attractions such as Santander Street and the church. We will then go to the dock for views of the lake and its volcanoes before boarding a boat to cross Lake Atitlan.
During the boat ride, we will view the Tolimán, Atitlán and San Pedro volcanoes. Upon disembarking in San Juan La Laguna, you can participate in handicraft workshops focusing on chocolate, textiles, and medicinal plants. After exploring the village, we will return by boat to Panajachel, where you can enjoy a typical Guatemalan meal and have free time to explore.
The return journey to hotels in Guatemala City will take about 12 to 12.5 hours.
Santiago Atitlán Boat Trip
During booking, you can upgrade to include a boat trip to Santiago Atitlán. This will take us east on the lake to visit the town containing Maximón, a traditional figure in Guatemala.
We will walk along the main street of Santiago, visiting the brotherhood of Maximón where local believers offer aguardiente and cigars. After this visit, we will sail back to Panajachel for free time to enjoy lunch.
