Discover Guatemala's indigenous cultures and Mayan traditions on this day trip to San Juan La Laguna or Santiago, including a boat ride on Lake Atitlan.
Activity Details
We will pick you up from your hotel in Guatemala City in the morning and head towards the Guatemalan Highlands, traveling to Panajachel, the largest town on Lake Atitlán. After approximately a 3-hour drive, we will take a guided tour of Panajachel, passing main tourist attractions, including Santander Street and its church. We will visit the dock for views of the lake and volcanoes.
Next, we will board a boat to cross Lake Atitlan, where we will see the Tolimán, Atitlán, and San Pedro volcanoes and hear about local legends.
Upon arrival at San Juan La Laguna, you may participate in handicraft workshops focusing on chocolate, textiles, and medicinal plants. After exploring the village, we will return to Panajachel by boat, where you can enjoy a typical Guatemalan meal and have free time to explore the town. The return journey to your hotel in Guatemala City will take about 12 to 12.5 hours.
Santiago Atitlán Boat Trip
During booking, you can upgrade to include a boat trip to Santiago Atitlán. This will take us further east of the lake to visit the town of Maximón, a renowned figure in Guatemalan culture. We'll walk along the main street of Santiago, exploring stores, cafés, and restaurants, before visiting the brotherhood of Maximón, learning about the local beliefs surrounding him.
After this visit, we will sail back to Panajachel and you will have free time for lunch.
