Montalcino & Abbey of Sant'Antimo Private Tour
At the time of your choice, we'll meet on Via Ricasoli to start our guided tour of Montalcino. Prepare to walk through a historical town in the Orcia Valley.
We will explore the historical center of this medieval town and discuss its history, including its role in the conflicts between Siena and Florence and its significance as a refuge for the nobility during warfare.
During the tour, we will view the exteriors of the 14th-century Fortress of Montalcino, the Palazzo dei Priori, and the Palazzo Pieri, as well as the town's winemaking tradition, notably the Brunello di Montalcino.
At the end of the Montalcino tour, you will follow the guide to the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, located 15 minutes away. This site, founded in 750 by emperor Charlemagne, is a significant monastic complex in Tuscany. We will enter the church to view its Romanesque decorations and, if fortunate, hear the Gregorian chants of the resident monks.
After three hours of sightseeing, we will return to the starting point.
