El Oro de Hidalgo & Tlalpujahua de Rayón Day Trip

On our day trip to El Oro de Hidalgo and Tlalpujahua de Rayón, we will explore two of Mexico's Magic Towns, departing from Morelia.

El Oro de Hidalgo & Tlalpujahua de Rayón Day Trip

Pickup from your hotel in Morelia will be at 7 am, and we will first visit El Oro de Hidalgo Magic Town.

Upon arrival, a walking tour of the historic center will commence, highlighting stately buildings from the prosperous mining era. Key sites include the neoclassical Parish Church of Santa María de Guadalupe and the Juárez Theatre.

Next, we will enter an old mine shaft to discuss mining processes and associated dangers. During this visit, there will be a stop at a 100-year-old draught for stone carving in a stonemasonry workshop, followed by a glassblowing workshop to observe handcrafted piece creation.

Participants will have 1 hour of free time for lunch before proceeding to the Magic Town of Tlalpujahua de Rayón, where we will explore cobbled streets and colonial architecture on a guided tour.

The tour will include visits to a 17th-century Franciscan convent, the temple of Santiago Puxtla, and the Church of El Carmen. We will also cover the significance of this town being known as the town of eternal Christmas. After the walking tour, there will be an opportunity to purchase souvenirs in one of the Christmas shops.

We will return to Morelia, arriving at your hotel by 8:30 pm.
