Embark on an unforgettable journey to discover one of the most renowned butterfly fishing techniques at Lake Patzcuaro and experience the charm of Janitzio Island during this full-day excursion from Morelia.
Day Trip Overview
We will commence our adventure at the specified time, gathering at Avenida Madero, at the west corner with Guillermo Prieto. From there, we'll proceed to the pier of Lake Patzcuaro to board a boat and explore the captivating wonders of this lagoon.
Following a relaxing hour on the waters of Lake Patzcuaro, our journey will take us to Isla Janitzio, an island formed from volcanic activity. There, we will witness local fishermen utilizing their traditional butterfly nets. Keep a lookout for the various fish species that inhabit the lake, including charal, black bass, tilapia, and carp.
Upon arriving at Janitzio Island, we will ascend to the impressive statue of José María Morelos, a significant landmark commemorating one of the key figures of Mexican Independence. This Art Deco monument stands at an impressive height of 47.75 metres!
You will then have some leisure time to enjoy lunch at your own pace. Next, we will explore the village, which was the provincial capital in 1534. Here, we will delve into the legacy of Don Vasco de Quiroga, the first archbishop of Michoacán, who dedicated himself to assisting the local indigenous population.
As our day comes to an end, we will return to the pier via boat and make our way back to Morelia, arriving at your hotel after a comprehensive 8-hour experience.
