Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Sierra Chincua
At 7 am, pickup from your hotel in Morelia will occur, followed by a two and a half hour drive to the Sierra Chincua Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.
Upon arrival, participants will disembark the minibus and proceed along the trails to search for monarch butterflies, which migrate from the northern United States and Canada to this fir, pine, and oyamel tree environment.
There will be a one-hour break for snacks along the way. The tour will then continue through the Chincua mountain range and around Tlalpujahua to observe butterfly colonies. Monarch butterflies generally measure 11 centimeters with their wings open and weigh no more than half a gram, playing a crucial role in pollination in Mexican forests.
At the monarch nesting site, participants will see eggs, caterpillars, and chrysalises. An hour of free time for lunch will be provided. Afterward, the route back will take approximately 40 minutes.
Finally, the tour concludes with a return to your hotel in Morelia, arriving around 10 pm.
