Private Tour to Paricutín Volcano & Angahuan
After picking you up from your hotel in Morelia at 9 am, we will set off on our private tour to explore the world's youngest volcano. Paricutín Volcano emerged in 1943 and was active for over 10 years.
Following a three and a half hour drive, we will reach the base of the mountain in the Pico de Tancítaro National Park. There, we will embark on a two-kilometre route on foot or on horseback, based on your preference.
We will explore the surroundings of this impressive 2800-metre-high volcano and approach the ruins of the village of San Juan Paricutín, buried by lava. Look for the remains of the church of San Juan Parangaricutiro.
Afterwards, we will drive to Angahuan, a Purepecha community, to learn about the indigenous language and customs. We will observe the Church of Santiago Apostle, known for its Mudéjar style facade, a blend of Christian and Islamic architecture.
Later, enjoy a traditional lunch featuring local dishes like churipo (spicy soup), corundas (similar to tamales), and gordias de queso (cheese-stuffed tortillas). Finally, we'll return to Morelia, dropping you off at your hotel by 6 pm.
