Yunuén & Pacanda Islands + Ihuatzio Tour
After picking you up from your hotel in Morelia at 9 am, we'll head to Lake Patzcuaro. Upon arrival, we'll board a boat to Yunuén Island. Here, we will walk through forests of junipers, pines, cedars, and oaks. Additionally, we will attend a workshop on the Purepecha language, which has three dialects from the central, highland, and lake areas.
Next, we'll travel by boat to Pacanda Island. Alternatively, you can opt to reach the island by zip-lining across 550 metres. During our exploration of Pacanda, we will learn about its 400 residents, visit the main square, and view traditional houses. You will also have an hour of free time for lunch.
Afterward, we will board the boat to return to dry land and proceed to the Ihuatzio archaeological site. This ancient Purépecha town served as an astronomical observatory and ceremonial centre prior to the Spanish arrival. We will tour the site to see the pyramids dedicated to the gods Curicaveri and Xaratanga.
At the end of the tour, we will return to Morelia, arriving at your hotel by 7 pm.
