Tour to Yunuén & Pacanda Islands + Ihuatzio

Our journey commences with a 9 am pickup at your accommodation in Morelia, after which we will make our way to Lake Patzcuaro. Once we arrive, a boat will be awaiting to transport us to Yunuén Island, a name that translates to ‘crescent moon’—and you will soon understand why!

On Yunuén Island, we will wander through its lush forests featuring junipers, pines, cedars, and oaks. Additionally, we will participate in a workshop focusing on the Purepecha language, and discover that it encompasses three distinct dialects: central, highland, and lakeside.

Following our exploration, we will take a boat ride to Pacanda Island. For those seeking a thrill, there's an option to zip-line 550 meters to the next island at an exhilarating speed!

As we traverse Pacanda Island, we will learn about its small community of 400 residents. We will visit the main square, observe traditional architecture, and take in the stunning views of the lake, where it's possible to encounter local fishermen using their butterfly nets. After this, you’ll enjoy an hour of free time to savor a meal.

Subsequently, we will board the boat again to return to the mainland and proceed to the Ihuatzio archaeological site. This ancient Purépecha settlement functioned both as an astronomical observatory and a ceremonial hub prior to the Spanish conquest. Our tour of Ihuatzio includes a visit to the pyramids dedicated to the deities Curicaveri and Xaratanga.

Finally, we will conclude our adventure and return to Morelia, arriving at your hotel around 7 pm.
