Alcantara Gorges Water Trekking

On this water trekking route through the Alcantara Gorges, we will explore a protected natural area in the north-east of Sicily.

Tour Description

We will meet at the scheduled time at the adventure sports centre on the carretera da Sciara s/n in Motta Camastra. From there, a short drive in an off-roading vehicle will take us to the gorges of the Alcantara River.

Upon arrival, we will begin the water trekking activity through the gorges. The hike covers 3 of the 6 kilometres (1.8 of the 3.7 miles) of the canyons. Participants will experience volcanic rock walls rising up to 25 metres (82 ft), formed by cooling magma in contact with water. We will walk along the river bed and observe various geological formations.

During the hike, we will learn about the origin of these canyons and explore the flora and fauna of this ecosystem characterized by scenic landscapes.

The route will conclude with a return to the starting point, where the off-roading vehicle will transport us back to the meeting point. The total duration of the activity is 1.5 hours.
