Alcantara Gorges Water Trekking

This water trekking adventure takes you through the stunning Alcantara Gorges, situated in one of the most remarkable protected areas in the northeast region of Sicily.

Tour Description

We’ll convene at the designated spot at the adventure sports center on the carretera da Sciara s/n. From here, a brief off-road drive will take us to the impressive gorges of the Alcantara River.

Upon arrival in this safeguarded region, renowned as one of Sicily's primary natural reserves, we’ll kick off the thrilling water trekking experience. Are you prepared for this outdoor exploration?

The trek stretches approximately 700 meters to 1 kilometer (0.4 to 0.6 miles) through the imposing canyons. Marvel at the striking volcanic rock formations that ascend to heights of 25 meters (82 ft), created by the cooling magma interacting with the river’s flow. As we progress, we’ll stroll along the riverbed, observing the unique geological structures that define this captivating area.

Throughout our journey in the Alcantara Gorges, we’ll uncover the formation history of these canyons. Additionally, we will delve into the rich flora and fauna that thrive in this extraordinary environment, celebrated for its breathtaking vistas.

We’ll end our trek by heading back to the starting point, where an off-roading vehicle will await us. This transport will take us back to the meeting location, marking the conclusion of our engaging activity, which spans a total duration of 1 hour.
