Although visiting a concentration camp may not be considered 'pleasurable', its historic importance is significant. This excursion aims to remember some of the most tragic events of the 20th century at the very locations where they occurred.
Dachau Concentration Camp
Following Hitler's rise to power, Dachau was established as a camp for political prisoners, operating for 12 years. The main installations finished in March 1933, with the first prisoners arriving the next day. Over 200,000 prisoners passed through, with over 40,000 killed.
Participants will meet the guide on Dachauer Straße in the morning and then travel to the Dachau concentration camp, located 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Munich. The journey involves taking a train and a bus and takes approximately 40 minutes.
Upon arrival, guests will pass through the same gate used by the prisoners and tour the courtyard, entrance hall, bathrooms, prison, barracks, gas chamber, and cremation ovens, as well as various commemorative monuments.
After learning about the day-to-day life of the prisoners and gaining insight into this dark period of German history, the group will return to Munich. The total time for the trip is between 4 and 5 hours.
Important to note
Children under 14 years old are not permitted to visit the camp with the tour.
