Harburg Castle and Rothenburg Day Trip
The route from Munich to Harburg Castle and Rothenburg is known as Southern Germany's Romantic Road, taking you through the scenic forests and mountains of Bavaria.
After pickup from the meeting point, the trip begins deep into rural Bavaria. The first stop is Harburg Castle, an 11th-century fortress that you can explore at your own pace (entry not included). This site is recognized as one of the oldest and best-preserved medieval citadels in Bavaria.
The journey continues toward Rothenburg, passing through the volcanic landscapes of the Swabia region, rich in fossils from prehistoric animals.
Upon arriving at Rothenburg, you will discover a medieval town that has maintained its historical charm. Its rooftops, adorned with striking red tiles, contribute to its nickname, 'Red Fort.'
Explore the charming cobbled streets and the old town, where you will find the 14th-century wall and can enter through the historical city gateway. There will be an opportunity to walk along the wall and climb the 200m Röedert Tower.
After the tour, you will have free time for dining and shopping in the beautiful narrow streets. The return trip to Munich includes a passage through Hallertau, the world's largest hop-growing area, with arrival back at the departure point around 7 pm.
