Set on an island in the middle of Lake Chiemsee, Herrenchiemsee Palace is a notable landmark. Join this day trip from Munich to explore its history.
Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we will meet at 4 Dachauer Straße and walk to Munich Central Station. From there, we will board a train for a one-hour ride to the Bavarian town of Chiemsee.
Upon arrival, we will take a boat to Herreninsel, the larger island. Here, you can visit Herrenchiemsee Palace, inspired by Versailles and commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria.
Those who choose to enter will explore the palace's rooms and gardens, learning about Ludwig II, known as the "Mad King." If you prefer to stay outside, you may enjoy the palace grounds while the group tours the interior.
Afterward, we will take a boat to Fraueninsel, which features a Benedictine convent with over 1,000 years of history. You will have free time to explore the island's village and enjoy its atmosphere.
Later, we will regroup and return by boat to Chiemsee to catch the train back to Munich, completing our trip after nine and a half hours.
