Set on an island in the middle of Lake Chiemsee, Herrenchiemsee Palace is one of southern Bavaria’s landmarks. Join us on this day trip from Munich to uncover its history!
Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at 4 Dachauer Straße and take a short walk to Munich Central Station. From there, we'll board a train for a one-hour ride to the Bavarian town of Chiemsee.
Upon arrival, we'll take a boat to Herreninsel, where you can visit the Herrenchiemsee Palace, inspired by Versailles and commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. If you choose to go inside, we'll explore the lavish rooms and gardens while sharing stories about Ludwig II, also known as the "Mad King." Alternatively, you can enjoy the palace grounds at your own pace.
Following this, we’ll take a boat to Fraueninsel, home to a Benedictine convent with over 1,000 years of history. You'll have free time to wander through the island’s village and relax in the atmosphere.
Later, we’ll regroup and take the boat back to Chiemsee, catching the train back to Munich. The trip will last a total of nine and a half hours.
