Explore the history and architecture of southern Bavaria on a day trip from Munich to Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairytale landmark associated with King Ludwig II and said to have inspired Walt Disney.

Itinerary

Meet your guide in the morning and travel south by bus or train, depending on the season. During the approximately two-hour journey, an English-speaking guide shares information about the region. At the castles, discover Neuschwanstein and nearby Hohenschwangau, where Ludwig II spent his childhood. Visit scenic viewpoints, including Marienbrücke, which stands 30 metres above the landscape. If time and weather allow, stroll to the lake or explore the surrounding countryside. There is also a stop for food and drinks. After around nine hours, return to Munich.

Practical information

Castle admission can be purchased from the guide on the day. Visitors choosing to enter can skip the queue; alternatively, spend free time exploring the grounds. The castle is uphill from the car park and can be reached on foot, by horse-drawn carriage or by bus. Swimming in the lake is possible only if time and weather permit.
