Mussomeli Walking Tour
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the Mussomeli Castle, or castello Manfredonico, to begin the guided tour of Mussomeli.
Mussomeli played an important role in medieval times. After introductions, we'll discuss the history of the castle while admiring its façade and fortified walls.
Next, we'll take a half-hour stroll to the historic centre of Mussomeli. As we walk through the narrow streets, we'll discover its churches, palaces and artistic beauty. We'll stop in front of the Church of Saint Ludovico, known locally as the Chiesa Madre, built between the 17th and 18th centuries.
We will also visit the Clock Tower, dating back to the 16th century and restored in the early 20th century. In the 19th century, it was equipped with a three-sided clock, allowing residents to tell the time from various parts of town.
The route will take us to Palazzo Sgadari, which became a prison in the 19th century and now houses the Archaeological Museum of Mussomeli. We will also view Palazzo Trabia and the exteriors of churches such as Santa Margherita, Providence and Monti.
After three hours, the tour will conclude near the Chiesa di San Giovanni.
