Get up close to one of Iceland's most visited spots by hopping on our shuttle bus to the DC3 Plane Wreck on Sólheimasandur Beach. You'll get a fantastic view of the wreckage of this US Navy aircraft from the 1970s.

Shuttle Bus to the DC3 Plane Wreck

At the scheduled time, we'll meet you at the Sólheimasandur Beach car park. From here, the bus will take you to the area around DC3. After a 15-minute drive, you'll arrive at the DC3 Plane Wreck. This aircraft was on a routine flight from Höfn to Stokksnes in 1973, but was forced to land on an icy river at Sólheimasandur due to severe icing. There were no fatalities. This wreck has become a popular spot for visitors. You will have free time to explore the plane and take pictures before returning to the bus for the trip back.

Schedule

The bus schedules complete their roundtrip journeys between Vík and the crashed plane DC3 between 10 am and 5 pm. You can stay at the crash site as long as you wish within this timeframe.
