Shirakawago Private Day Trip

Discover Shirakawago's Gassho-style houses and local culture on a private day trip from Kanazawa.

Day Trip Details

We will meet at your hotel in Kanazawa and travel by public bus to the historic village of Shirakawago. The journey through the scenic Japanese Alps lasts 1 hour. Our first stop will be the Wada-House, the largest Gassho-style farmhouse in Shirakawago.

The village features a high concentration of Gassho-zukuri style houses, characterized by thatched roofs designed for heavy snowfall. These homes are constructed using only ropes—no nails. A gassh?-zuruki means 'praying hands.'

We will embark on a 1-hour tour of Ogimachi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to learn about local life and the history of these homes, some over 250 years old, with some serving as open-air museums. Following this, you’ll have an hour of free time to have lunch at local restaurants.

Afterward, we will return to Kanazawa, arriving at your hotel approximately 5 hours after the start.

Hotel Pickup

We will meet you at your hotel in downtown Kanazawa. Travel to the bus station will be via taxi (at your expense) or walking. For hotels outside downtown, we will meet you at the Kanazawa bus station.
