Discover the history and landscapes of Senegal with a day trip to Goree Island and Lac Rose lake.
Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your hotel and head to the port of Dakar. A ferry will take us to Goree Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you'll learn about its significant role in the Atlantic slave trade. The tour starts at the House of Slaves, historically used as a prison and market for slaves.
Next, we will explore the colorful streets and visit the historic fort for panoramic views of the coastline. Afterward, we will return on the ferry to Dakar, where a bus will take us to Lac Rose (the Pink Lake), notable for being the final stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally up to 2008.
A 4x4 vehicle will provide a tour of the lake’s scenic surroundings, including its pink waters and the sand dunes that separate it from the Atlantic Ocean.
Before returning to Saly, there will be an opportunity for a dip in the lake, where the high salt content allows for easy floating. The tour will conclude 10.5 hours after its start.
Bathing in Lac Rose
Bathing in Lac Rose will occur if time permits, with 15 minutes allocated to enjoy the salty waters.
Please Note
Due to heavy rains in summer 2024, the lake has retained water and lost its color. While salt extraction activities and excursions have resumed, the color has not returned, and it is uncertain when it will be pink again.
