Trip Details

At the designated time, you will be collected from your hotel and head to the port of Dakar. A ferry will take you to the captivating island of Goree.

During your exploration of Dakar Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will learn about its significant role in the Atlantic slave trade. The first stop on the Goree tour is the House of Slaves, which served as a prison and market for slaves during this tragic chapter in history.

Next, you will stroll through the colorful narrow streets, bordered by charming colonial houses. The historic fort offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline. Afterward, you will board the ferry again for the return journey to Dakar. At the port, a bus will take you to Lac Rose (Pink Lake), known for being the final stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally until 2008.

A 4x4 vehicle will provide a tour of the lake's beautiful surroundings. In addition to the remarkable pink waters of Lac Rose, you will also see the stunning sand dunes that separate it from the Atlantic Ocean.

Before returning to Saly, there will be an opportunity for a refreshing dip in the lake. You will discover how easily you can float on the surface due to the high salt content of the water.

The tour concludes 10.5 hours later back at the starting point.

Bathing in Lac Rose

Bathing in Lac Rose will only be possible if time permits during that part of the tour. You will have 15 minutes to enjoy the salty, pink waters.

Please Note

Due to the heavy rains of summer 2024, the lake has retained a significant amount of water and has lost its color. Salt extraction activities have resumed, along with excursions and activities offered there, but the color has not yet returned, and it is uncertain when it will regain its pink hue.
