Embark on a remarkable journey aboard the Train of the Alps, departing from Nice and traversing the breathtaking Var Valley, a region renowned for its stunning landscapes that will leave a lasting impression.
Tour Description
We will convene at the Gare des Chemins de Fer de Provence train station. Are you ready to unveil the wonders of the Var Valley?
Our adventure commences in Entrevaux, frequently regarded as one of France's most charming towns. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit the magnificent Royal Citadel, accessible via a 150-step staircase, which provides breathtaking views from the medieval drawbridge that overlooks the Var Valley. In addition, we will explore a delightful baroque cathedral, further enhancing the town's historical allure.
Post lunch at a local eatery, we will board the train once more and journey to a nearby medieval village famous for its troglodyte structures and seasonal transformations. Prepare for a picturesque 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) hike through this area, where we will meander through an ancient chestnut forest that has thrived for centuries. A good level of fitness is recommended for this energetic route!
Depending on the group's speed, we can opt for a shorter 4-kilometer hike or challenge ourselves with a longer 8-kilometer loop. In either case, you will enjoy the crisp, refreshing alpine air while discovering the captivating forest environment.
Ultimately, we will board the Alpine Train again, concluding our journey back at the original station in Nice, wrapping up this memorable excursion lasting approximately 13.5 hours.
Early Return
For those who prefer, after visiting the citadel in Entrevaux and enjoying lunch, you can make your own way back to Nice, without a guide, with an expected arrival time around 4 pm.
