Experience a stunning plantation, a serene canopy of oak trees, and confront one of the more somber narratives in American history as you embark on this guided visit to Oak Alley, renowned for being one of Louisiana's long-standing and meticulously preserved estates.
Exploring Oak Alley Plantation
Your journey begins with a pickup from your New Orleans hotel between 8:15 and 8:45 am, followed by a scenic drive that lasts approximately an hour and fifteen minutes to the banks of the Mississippi River, where Oak Alley is situated.
Upon arrival, the first highlight will be the enchanting canopy of oak trees leading to the property, from which the plantation derives its name. Following this stunning introduction, we will tour the magnificent mansion established in 1837. For the next thirty minutes, a professional guide, dressed in historical attire, will lead us through the home’s exquisite interiors.
During this segment, we will uncover the opulent lifestyle of its former owners while also grappling with the grave historical truths, including the plight of over 100 enslaved individuals who toiled under dire conditions at Oak Alley.
After the mansion experience, you will have 90 minutes to wander the grounds at your own pace. As you explore, you will encounter the slave quarters, informative displays that highlight the cost of black labor, the working farm, and various themed gardens, among other features.
The excursion concludes with a return journey to New Orleans, ensuring you are back at your hotel by approximately 1:30 pm.
