On this hike to Hito Copahue, we will reach the highest point of the natural border between Argentina and Chile. From here, we'll admire the Andean Valley and the Copahue Volcano.

Hike Details

We will start by picking you up from your hotel in Caviahue. Afterward, we will travel to Copahue, where our hiking trail to Hito Copahue begins.

In Copahue's thermal resort, we will prepare for our trek through the arid landscapes near the Copahue Volcano. This 6-kilometre (3.7-mile) adventure includes passages through fossilised lava rocks from the crater. Along the way, we will discuss the geological processes that shaped the scenery.

The trail winds through semi-desert plains characteristic of the region. We will encounter streams from snowmelt and may cross snowy areas.

We will arrive at the boundary marker X-5, known as Hito Copahue, the natural frontier between Argentina and Chile, surrounded by snowy peaks and arid hills. You will be able to stand in both Argentina and Chile. We will celebrate with a warm drink before returning.

On our descent, we will visit Callos Lagoon at the Copahue hot springs to dip our toes into the warm water. After a total of 5 hours, we will return to your hotel in Caviahue.
