Cerro Verde Volcano and Mayan Ruins Trip

Experience a day immersed in the history and nature of three iconic locations in San Salvador: the Natural Protected Area of Cerro Verde, the Mayan ruins of Joya de Cerén, and San Andrés.

Description

We'll pick you up at your selected pickup point for a one-hour drive to Los Volcanes National Park?, an area of volcanoes and lakes.

Upon arrival, we'll embark on a 45-minute hike towards Cerro Verde Volcano, situated at an altitude of 2,035 meters (6,600 feet). You will follow ecological trails and admire the Santa Ana Volcano and Izalco Volcano, known as the 'Lighthouse of the Pacific.'

We'll walk through a cloud forest to reach the crater near the summit of Cerro Verde Volcano, surrounded by local plant species like the Giant Agave. Enjoy views of the volcanic lake of Coatepeque.

In the afternoon, we'll trek to the archaeological site of Joya de Cerén, referred to as the "Pompeii of America," where you will learn about this well-preserved Mayan agricultural village.

We will proceed to the archaeological site of San Andrés, exploring structures used by Mayan rulers, including the remains of an indigo mill buried by an eruption in 1658.

Finally, we will return to San Salvador, concluding our adventure.
