Embark on a Muisca tour of Tunja and delve into the rich pre-Hispanic heritage of the Boyacá region, as you visit the significant remains of the Amerindian Muisca civilization.
Highlights
Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Tunja, from where we will travel to the Hunzahua Well. This revered site holds great importance for the ancient Hunza community, who were residents of one of the foremost cities of the Muisca civilization in pre-Columbian times.
After we explore the origins of this well, our journey continues to the Los Cojines del Zaque Archaeological Park. This historic Muisca sanctuary was notable for serving as an astronomical center and a site for ritual offerings. Here, we will examine the historical significance of the Loma de los Ahorcados.
Next, we will visit Moyas de San Ricardo, where the traces of an ancient Muisca planetarium can be found. Following this, we will proceed to admire the pictograms along the Farfacá River. Our exploration will also include stops to view the captivating Muisca culture murals that adorn various locations in Tunja.
After a day filled with discovery, we will pause for a traditional Boyacá lunch at a local restaurant in downtown Tunja, featuring an appetizer, your choice of meat or fish as a main dish, and a drink. As we enjoy this meal, we will reflect on the culinary traditions of the Muisca community.
With our appetites satisfied, we will return to Tunja, concluding our enriching experience about 7 hours after departure.
