The capital of Boyaca has a significant religious heritage. On this tour, you'll explore the churches of Tunja, featuring architectural gems from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Itinerary
You will be picked up from your hotel in Tunja at the scheduled time to begin your exploration of the city’s religious heritage.
The first stop is Bolívar Square, where you will visit Santiago Cathedral. Inside, you will observe the harmonious blend of Elizabethan, Renaissance, and Neoclassical styles present in the cathedral, which began construction in the 2nd half of the 16th century.
Your tour will continue to the Santo Domingo convent, noted for its colonial sacred art. Following this, you will visit San Ignacio and Santa Barbara churches, known for local devoutness.
The next stop will be the San Laureano Chapel, one of the 14 Hispanic churches in Tunja. Then, you will proceed to the church of Santa Clara, learning about the first female convent in Colombia, and continue to Nuestra Señora de Milagro Sanctuary.
Finally, you will learn about the church and convent of San Francisco, after which you will return to your hotel. Your arrival is expected around 5 hours after your pick-up time.
