Travel to a rural Quechuan town in the Peruvian Andes and learn about their cultures on this trip to the Huilloc community.
1-Day Tour
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo and travel to the Huilloc community to experience life with this indigenous tribe in the Cusco region. Upon arrival, members of a craftswomen's cooperative will welcome us and provide a demonstration and presentation about their fabrics and their ties to Andean culture and history.
Next, we will enjoy a lunch of Pachamanca, cooked in a natural oven, consisting of chicken and potatoes or sweet potatoes. You will have the opportunity to purchase a handmade fabric souvenir before we return to your hotel after 6 hours, concluding the tour.
2-Day Tour
For a more relaxed experience, select the 2-day tour option. This includes spending an entire day with a Huilloc family and staying overnight as a guest in their house. You will learn about their daily customs, visit a glacier-origin lake, and interact with alpacas, an important source of income for high-altitude Andean families.
You will share meals with the family, including a traditional Pachamanca. The itinerary also includes a visit to a textile market to see crafts from the Cusco region. After a day of exploration, time will be allocated for rest.
The next morning, enjoy a traditional Andean breakfast including tea, oats, eggs, potatoes, and ponche de habas, an oat drink made with beans. The tour concludes with your return to your hotel in Ollantaytambo.
Accommodation and food
For the 2-day option, all meals are included along with 1 night of accommodation in a private bedroom within the community, allowing for deeper immersion in Huilloc culture.
