Bike Tour of Soweto
We will meet at Kumalo Street to begin the bike tour of Soweto, an engaging way to explore this vital neighborhood in Johannesburg.
Once equipped with bikes and helmets, we will start pedaling through Soweto. The tour begins in Killarney, where we will discuss the creation of Soweto in 1904.
Next, we will visit the house of Lilian Ngoyi, a notable anti-apartheid activist who advocated for the rights of South African women. The tour will then proceed to the Hector Pieterson Museum, a pivotal site connected to the Soweto Uprising, a key moment in the struggle against apartheid.
Our journey will include a stop at Nelson Mandela's house, where he resided from 1946 to 1962, and Desmond Tutu's house, where the Nobel Peace Prize laureate lived.
The tour will conclude with a lunch break to enjoy a kota sandwich, a traditional South African dish. After 4 hours of biking through Soweto, we will return to the meeting point to conclude the tour.
