High cliffs on an idyllic beach, a castle built by the Knights Templar, and an exiled Pope. Get to know all the charms of Peñíscola and discover the most exciting chapters of its history with this excursion.
Peñiscola Day Trip
We'll meet at 9:15 am next to the Oropesa del Mar Tourist Office, where a minibus will take us to Peñíscola.
After a 40 minute journey, we'll arrive at this town on the Costa del Azahar. The guided tour will cover its famous monuments, showcasing the influence of Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs.
From the old artillery park, we'll view Peñíscola's northern beach and Pope Luna's castle. After taking photos of the façade, we'll explore the fortress. This site is significant due to its connection with a bishop who went into exile and broke with papal authority during the Western Schism.
The tour includes exteriors of emblematic buildings like the Casa de las Conchas and the Church of Santa Maria, which dates back to the 13th century.
We will visit the Bufador, a natural opening between rocks that emits a howling sound, legend states it frightened off attackers throughout history.
The final stop will be at the Museum of the Sea, featuring photographs, drawings, engravings, and fishing equipment that highlight the strong seafaring tradition of this Castilian town. After the museum visit, we will return by minibus, concluding the tour at 1:45 pm back in Oropesa del Mar.
