High cliffs on an idyllic beach, a castle built by the Knights Templar, and an exiled Pope. Discover the charms of Peñíscola and its historical significance during this excursion.

Peñiscola Day Trip

We will meet at 9:15 am next to the Oropesa del Mar Tourist Office, where a minibus will take us to Peñíscola.

After a 40-minute journey, we will arrive at this town on the Costa del Azahar. The guided tour includes exploring famous monuments and the influences of Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs on the area.

From the old artillery park, we will see Peñíscola's northern beach and Pope Luna's castle. After a photo opportunity of its façade, we will enter this fortress, noting the historical significance of the bishop who went into exile and challenged papal authority during the Western Schism.

The route will also include the exteriors of Casa de las Conchas and the Church of Santa Maria, dating back to the 13th century.

We will visit the Bufador, a natural rock formation that produces a howling sound, said to have discouraged attackers over the years.

The last stop will be the Museum of the Sea, where various artifacts will provide insight into the seafaring tradition of this town.

After the museum visit, we will return by minibus, concluding the tour at 1:45 pm back in Oropesa del Mar.
