High cliffs on an idyllic beach, a castle built by the Knights Templar, and an exiled Pope. Discover the charms of Peñíscola and its historical significance with this excursion.

Peñiscola Day Trip

We'll meet at 9:15 am next to the Oropesa del Mar Tourist Office, where a minibus will take us to Peñíscola.

After a 40-minute journey, we'll arrive at this town on the Costa del Azahar. During the guided tour, we'll explore its famous monuments and the influences of Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, and Arabs.

We'll visit the old artillery park, see Peñíscola's northern beach, and Pope Luna's castle. After taking photos of the façade, we'll enter the fortress. Learn about the bishop who went into exile here and his role in the Western Schism of the Catholic Church.

The route includes viewing other emblematic buildings such as the Casa de las Conchas and the 13th-century Church of Santa Maria.

We'll also see the Bufador, a natural hole between the rocks that produces a howling sound, reputed to scare off attackers.

Our last stop will be the Museum of the Sea, featuring photographs, drawings, engravings, and fishing equipment related to the town’s seafaring tradition.

After the museum visit, we will return by minibus and conclude the tour at 1:45 pm back in Oropesa del Mar.
