Barbagia 4x4 Adventure
Starting at 8:30 am, your journey begins with a pickup at Piazza del Popolo in Orosei, where we will embark southward in a robust 4x4 vehicle.
Our first destination is the Nuragic site of sa Sedda 'e sos Carros, a notable archaeological landmark nestled in the Lanaittu Valley within the province of Nuoro. Here, we will delve into the history of the Nuragic civilization, particularly their revered water cult during the Bronze Age, roughly 3,000 years ago. The structures surrounding a sacred well made of dark basalt and light limestone boulders are extraordinary and stand unique in the Mediterranean region.
Following our exploration of this fascinating site, we will continue our 4x4 journey towards the springs of Su Gologone, located at the base of Mount Uddè. This location is noted for its stunning karst spring, where the waters cascade into a small lake displaying striking blue and emerald hues – a feast for the eyes!
Our adventure will further lead us to the Corbeddu Cave, which is home to the oldest hominid remains discovered in Sardinia, dating back an impressive 20,000 years. As we explore the surroundings, we will come across significant fossils, including those of the ancient ancestor of deer (Megaloceros cazioti) and the now-extinct Prolagus sardus.
We will wrap up our excursion with a return to Orosei between 12:30 and 1:30 pm.
