At the indicated time, make your way to Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg. The castle, built by the Hohenstaufen family in the 12th century, has changed hands multiple times, including to the Habsburgs in the 15th century. After being abandoned due to destruction in the Thirty Years' War, it was restored in 1900 by Wilhelm II of Germany, who entrusted the project to Bodo Ebhardt. The castle, a historical monument and educational landmark, is visited by over half a million people each year.
Your ticket grants you access to a self-guided tour. Explore the lower courtyard, castle inn, forge, and mill. Visit the lord’s furnished chambers, cross ancient drawbridges, and wander through historic rooms to gain insight into the castle's past as a powerful stronghold.
Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg Opening Hours
The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg is open at the following times:
January, February and March: from 9:30 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 5 pmApril, May, June, September, October, November, and December: from 9:30 am to 6 pmJuly and August: from 9 am to 7 pm
Final admission is 1 hour before closing. The castle is closed on January 1st and December 25th and 26th. On Mondays, opening is at 10:30 am.
Free Admission
On the first Sunday of each month from November to March, and during European Heritage Days, admission is free for all visitors.
