Why Visit The Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg?
At the indicated time, make your way to Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, high in the Vosges Mountains. Built by the Hohenstaufen family in the 12th century, the castle has undergone centuries of conflict, altering ownership among powerful rulers, including the Habsburgs in the 15th century.
After being abandoned for centuries due to destruction in the Thirty Years' War, the Château was restored in 1900 by Wilhelm II of Germany, who sought to revive the Middle Ages through Bodo Ebhardt. The castle now serves as both a historical monument and an educational landmark, attracting over half a million visitors annually.
Your ticket includes a self-guided tour of the fortress. You can explore the lower courtyard, castle inn, forge, and mill, as well as climb spiral staircases to the lord’s chambers, cross ancient drawbridges, and wander through historically rich rooms.
