Auschwitz Guided Tour
- 3 Stunden
Learn all the details of the harrowing history of the Holocaust in Poland with this guided tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a place that saw thousands of people suffer and die at the hands of the Nazis.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Wi??niów O?wi?cimia den O?wi?cim. Once assembled, we'll start a tour of the concentration camp that marked a before and after in the history of Europe.
The tour will begin at Auschwitz I, the original camp, featuring the infamous inscription Arbeit Macht Frei: work will set you free. This compound held up to 20,000 prisoners in 1942 and included Block 11, where prisoners faced hanging, starvation, and execution.
We'll visit barracks where thousands lived in overcrowded conditions and learn about the experiments of Dr. Josef Mengele. This area also included a brothel for inmates with extra privileges.
After a 10-minute break, we'll enter Auschwitz II-Birkenau, designed for extermination. Here, we'll observe train tracks where Jews, Romani, Sinti people, and members of the LGBTQ community arrived for forced labor or death.
During the tour, we will walk to the watchtower and remaining barracks, as others were destroyed by the Germans before the arrival of the Red Army. The tour concludes with the locations of the gas chambers and crematorium ovens, also destroyed before liberation. The entire tour lasts 2 hours and 40 minutes.
