Tour itinerary: Congonhas and Mariana excursion
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Ouro Preto at the scheduled time and kick off our expedition to Mariana and Congonhas.
Our first stop is Congonhas, a 17th-century city with a rich history. Our visit begins at the Sanctuary of the Lord Good Jesus of Matosinhos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. Explore the complex, which features sculptures of the Twelve Prophets by Aleijadinho from the early 19th century.
Next, we will visit the chapels of Passos da Paixão de Cristo and conclude our stop at Congonhas' museum.
After a one-hour lunch break at a local restaurant, we'll proceed to Mariana, the former capital of Minas Gerais, for a guided tour of Minas Gerais Square and its colonial monuments, including the Pelourinho and the Casa de Câmara e Cadeia.
We will also visit the Cathedral or Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption, and the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Church.
Finally, we'll explore the Passagem mine to learn about precious metal extraction. After nine hours of exploration, we'll return to Ouro Preto to conclude our tour.
