Day Trip to Mariana

Want to explore the first capital of the state of Minas Gerais? On this day trip to Mariana, we'll learn the history of this city founded in the 17th century. We'll also visit an old gold mine that was profitable for the Portuguese Crown.

Day Trip to Mariana

At 9 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Ouro Preto and head east to Mariana. The minibus ride will take 30 minutes.

Upon arrival, we'll visit Minas Gerais square, the heart of the village, where we will enjoy a panoramic view of the town and surrounding mountains.

During the tour, we'll see the exterior of the City Hall, the Carmen and San Francisco churches, and the Pelourinho.

After exploring the historic center of Mariana, we'll head to the Passagem gold mine. Here, we'll board a mining wagon to descend into the mine and see the galleries and tunnels. Historically, nearly 35 tons of gold were extracted from this mine for the Portuguese Crown.

We'll conclude the excursion at 12 noon and return to your hotel in Ouro Preto.
