Day Trip to Mariana

This tour explores the first capital of Minas Gerais, Mariana, founded in the 17th century. The day trip includes a visit to an old gold mine that was significant for the Portuguese Crown.

We will pick you up at your hotel in Ouro Preto at 9 am and travel east to Mariana, with a 30-minute minibus ride.

Upon arrival, we will visit Minas Gerais Square, the town's center, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the streets, houses, and surrounding mountains.

The tour includes sightseeing the exterior of City Hall, Carmen and San Francisco Churches, and the Pelourinho, a historical building for colonial-era punishments.

After the historic center, we will proceed to the Passagem gold mine. Here, participants will board a mining wagon to explore the galleries and tunnels. This mine produced nearly 35 tons of gold for the Portuguese Crown.

The excursion concludes at noon, with a return to your hotel in Ouro Preto.
