This excursion to Maquiné Grotto and Cordisburgo is a blend of nature, history, and literature. You'll witness the stunning stalactites and stalagmites inside the magnificent cave and explore the life and legacy of Guimarães Rosa, an influential figure in Brazilian literature.

Day Trip to the Maquiné Cave & Cordisburgo

We'll collect you from your hotel in Ouro Preto at 8 am and embark on a three-hour journey by minibus to the Maquiné Grotto, a natural landmark.

This cave was discovered in the 19th century by a farmer and is well-preserved. As we explore its chambers, filled with stalactites and stalagmites, we'll identify unique rock formations, including shapes resembling an elephant and a bear.

Afterward, we'll travel to Cordisburgo, the hometown of João Guimarães Rosa, a prominent Brazilian writer. We'll visit the museum to learn about his life and legacy.

During the Cordisburgo tour, we will see the town's iconic sites, such as the Portal Grande Sertão, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and an open-air museum with animal sculptures. You will have an hour and a half of free time for lunch at a local restaurant.

At 5 pm, we'll conclude the tour and return you to your hotel.
